On Tuesday, snow blanketed the region and the between 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Colonial School District announced that there would be an early dismissal. The high school was let out at 11:00 a.m., Colonial Middle School at 11:30 a.m. and the elementary schools at noon.

It was a pretty good storm and after kids were on their way home, we saw this post (that we shared) on Whitemarsh Township’s Facebook page regarding some students still stuck at school, because one of the buses had not yet returned to the school to take them home.

Today Colonial School District sent out this email to parents and a parent forwarded it over to us. It reads:

Parents:

We know today was a frustrating day for most everyone in the Philadelphia region. We wish to commend First Student and all of our bus drivers for their patience and commitment to the safety of our students while working under very difficult conditions this afternoon.  We also thank you, the parents, for your patience and understanding.

Decisions to delay or close school are not made unilaterally, but rather after consulting with local police, numerous weather sources and other school districts. And, as always, those decisions are made with the safety of our students as the priority. Today’s storm came a little quicker than we were advised. Again, we thank you all for your patience and understanding.

Parents, would you rather school just be called off with the threat of heavy snow or wait to see what happens?
