Conshohocken News & Gossip – Week of 07/11/11

News & Gossip

Having been on radio silence since October 29th, the Concerned Conshohockens Against More Traffic Facebook Page has seen several posts over the last two weeks asking people to get involved.  As you may remember this page was created right around the time it was announced a Super Wawa may be coming to 11th and Fayette at the current location of Moore Chevrolet.

As you may have heard, my company is expanding into Ambler.  The site will be AroundAmbler.com, which will be up in a few weeks.  The Facebook Page is up and operating.

As you are probably are aware, Conshohocken has an election in November for several seats on Borough Council.  Thus far it has been a mundane affair.  Last week things heated up a tad when Republican Chris Savage took to his Facebook and implied that current members of Borough Council are providing free curb and sidewalk repairs to their friends, while others are required to pay for these repairs themselves.

A handful of Phillies were in West Conshohocken at Boenning & Scattergood last week to promote first annual Philly Financial Day, where a percentage of some local business trader profits will go directly to each player’s charitable foundations.

Conshohocken received $19,000 for directional signage from the county.

In other money news, a few weeks ago I posted a photo of work being done at Mary Wood Park.  This week it was announced that the improvements came through a grant secured by State Rep. Mike Gerber.

A car flipped over at Butler and Kirk on Sunday.

The Times Herald did a nice profile of Miss Pennsylvania International Julia Pauline who lives in Conshy.

The Londonbury has been the scene of some odd events the past month or so, well at least by Conshy standards.  First there was a stabbing and then last night a lady went crazy taking photos and hitting a guy that was already on a stretcher being loaded into an ambulance.  While that might not seem that odd if she knew him, it appears they didn’t know one another and she wasn’t connected to whatever landed him on the stretcher.  This just in…my spies at Londonbury tell me that the guy broke both of his legs after falling from his or a nearby balcony.  The balcony doors at Londonbury will close if left open and it sounds like he got locked out of his apartment and stuck on the balcony.

In other fun news, members of the Gangsta Killa Blood gang representing No’Town were arrested recently and one of their alleged crimes included an assault in West Conshohocken.

If you live in West Conshy, starting the week of July 11, 2011, and anticipating completion in September, Aqua will begin replacing 2,821 feet of water main in the Borough. The first part of construction will begin at Front and Ford Street on Monday, July 11th and continue down Ford Street. The construction will involve the following streets – Ford Street between Front and Church Streets and Josephine Avenue between Ford and William Streets.  Work hours for the project will be 7:30am to 5:00pm daily. The roadway will be closed in the areas of construction.  You are asked to avoid traveling through the construction zone when possible.  Temporary “No Parking” signs will be posted in the area of construction during working hours.  Residents will have access to their properties as well as essential services (emergency, trash and mail services).

Team Conshy Crew (Stephen Phipps, Michelle Ziobro, Adrienne Bock and Brad Culp) raised $4,239 riding in the 62.5 miles American Cancer Society Bike-a-Thon.  You can still support the team by clicking here.Want to show your love for this website and dozens of other businesses in Conshohocken?  Just follow the link and start voting!

A few weeks ago I mentioned that a new salon was coming to Fayette Street in the spot formally occupied by Minuteman Press (when they were on the Boathouse side of Fayette Street).  Last week I learned that the salon will be called “I’m Sergio” and it will be geared towards men.  Now while all of this sounds great, it is right across the street from “Style of Man” which is also geared exclusively towards men.  We will see if Conshohocken can support two places targeting the same market.  Sergio told me last week that he hopes to open in late August.

This banner popped up recently at The StoneRose.  Brian posted on Facebook a couple days ago that the work inside has started.
