News & Gossip

Last week you may have seen my post on Facebook regarding tasting Rick Shaffer’s meatballs.  Shaffer, along with his wife Mary, are local developers.  Their company built the beautiful glass building next to the train station, the condos along Maple across from Guppy’s and they own The Outbound Station.    Well Mike and Marcie Spampinato, the father/daughter team at Spamps and Spampinato’s, insisted I try their meatballs.  Both are very good and I couldn’t decide, so they want YOU to decide during the 2010 Meatball Wars to benefit the $100 for 100 program.

The $100 for 100 program provides for local children to be nominated and awarded a $100 shopping spree to pick-up much needed items at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Plymouth Meeting.  The 100 kids participating will be invited to a private shopping event on December 11th from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. to spend their $100.  For example, last year a child with holes in his shoes was able to pick-up a new pair of shoes.  The Shaffer’s have been involved with the program for a couple years.  You can nominate a child or make a donation (any amount) by clicking here.

So starting October 25th and running through November 22, Meatball Wars is on between The Outbound Station and Spampinato’s.  They will both have meatball sandwiches on the menu and $1 from every sandwich sold will go towards $100 for 100.  There is even rumors of a meatball event!  Stay tuned and vote with your stomach!
