Diamond Avenue in Plymouth Township will open to two-way traffic for the first time on Wednesday, June 22, 2016. Diamond Avenue and Conshohocken Road have been closed to through-traffic since April 25th due to road work associated with Phase 2 of the Lafayette Street Extension Project.

Also on June 22nd, Fairfield Road will be reopened to two-way traffic and a new signal at the intersection with Ridge Pike will be fully operational. Fairfield Road has been restricted to one-way northbound traffic since September 2015.

June 22nd marks a major shift in how local residents will travel. Diamond Avenue will replace Conshohocken Road as the route from Norristown to Conshohocken. Drivers will no longer turn onto Conshohocken Road from Ridge Pike. Instead, they will turn at the improved Ridge Pike/Diamond Avenue/Fairfield Road intersection. Drivers traveling south on Fairfield Road from Sandy Hill Road will now continue straight, instead of turning onto Lucetta Street. At the conclusion of the Lafayette Street Extension Project, the existing portion of Conshohocken Road from Ridge Pike to Diamond Avenue will revert to a private driveway.

“The Lafayette Street Extension Project represents a $100 million transportation investment in Montgomery County,” said Josh Shapiro, Chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. “The project will transform Norristown, ease congestion, and improve trail access, and demonstrates this Administration’s commitment to investing in our infrastructure.”

The project will significantly improve access to Norristown and its Main Street and riverfront, as well as Plymouth Township’s Ridge Pike and Conshohocken Road corridors, providing a transportation framework that will spur economic development.

The project is a partnership between Montgomery County, the Federal Highway Administration, and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Phase 2 began construction in November 2014 to improve circulation along Ridge Pike, Diamond Avenue, Fairfield Road, and Conshohocken Road.
