When a group of prominent residents got together at the time of incorporation in May of 1850, it is believed that they put three names in a hat to determine what the new borough would be called. According to the history page on the Borough’s website, the three names were Woodvale, Riverside and Conshohocken. Conshohocken was “a derivative of the original name given the area by the Lenni Lenape Indians, “Gueno-Sheiki-Hacki-ing,” meaning “beautiful or peaceful valley.”

Can you imagine hearing “Woodvale Curve” or “Riverside Boy” or this website being named “MoreThanTheVale.com”?
