Chef Doug Runyen – Fayette Street Grille

How did you come to live and/or work in Conshohocken?

I originally moved to West Conshy in 1989 because it was convenient to both my wife’s and my job.  We bought a house on West 8th Avenue in 1991 and opened the Grille in 1998.

Tell us about your restaurant or bar….

The Grille is a 48 seat BYOB with an open kitchen serving what’s been described as “New American” cuisine. I like to think of it as a bistro. Dinner is prix fixe at $34 for three courses- a choice of 8 starters, 8 entrees and 7 or 8 desserts. Lunch is sandwiches and salads served fast and fresh.

What is your favorite dish or drink at your work?

At lunch, I’m partail to the BBQ Pork sandwich or on Fridays, the BBQ chicken special.  At dinner, the baked crab dip and the breast of duck or the roaste Pork Tenderloin with roasted garlic triple sec demi glace.

Besides something from your place, what is your favorite dish or drink in Conshohocken?

Pizza and cold beer with Tommy and Paul at Pepperoncini.

What are you involved in outside of work?

The little free time I have is spent trying to keep up with my sons and their activities. Little league baseball, American Legion baseball, high school band and marching band, music lessons and recitals, basketball, ice hockey and soccer are just a few of the things they’re in to.
