The Colonial School District sent an email this morning to notify parents that a “Whitemarsh parent” had been “exposed” to the doctor at The Children’s Hospital in King of Prussia who has tested positive for the Coronavirus. In addition to being a parent of a student, the parent also has a relative that works at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School.

The district is not closing schools, but focusing on cleaning. Public health officials do not recommend closing schools unless there is a positive test involving someone at the school.

Here is the email sent by the district:

Information about the coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to rapidly evolve throughout the county and state. We continue to communicate with the Office of Public Health and with our community. Last evening, we learned that a Whitemarsh parent in our district was exposed to a health care provider at Children’s Hospital in King of Prussia who tested positive for the coronavirus.

Additionally, our parent also has a relative that works at PWHS. The parent has self-quarantined as a precaution. We consulted with the Office of Public Health late last evening and were advised not to close schools at this time and continue our cleaning efforts. Although the student and our employee were not directly in contact with the health care provider at CHOP they will remain out of schools while the parent is monitored. We continue to diligently clean our buildings and hard surfaces each night. It is important that students and employees who are ill remain home and communicate with the district as needed.
