Colonial School District Releases School Start Dates for Next Three Years

The Colonial Board of School has set the start dates for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years at its meeting on May 16th. The Board unanimously approved the pre-Labor Day dates recommended by the administration starting for the 2020-2021 school year.

The starting dates for the Colonial School District are as follows:

2019-2020 – Tuesday, September 3, 2019
2020-2021 – Monday, August 31, 2020
2021-2022 – Monday, August 30, 2021

Superintendent Dr. Michael Christian explained that with Labor Day occurring later in 2020 and 2021, a post-holiday start would have school ending in late June.

“It has been my experience that the school days in late August are more productive than those in late June,” he said. “Also, in discussion with our administrators and teachers’ union leadership, we feel it is important to have the instructional time earlier in the year prior to Keystone and PSSA exams.”

Dr. Christian added that by setting the start dates now, parents will have ample time to plan and schedule vacations. He again emphasized that the start date for the 2019-2020 school year will be after Labor Day on September 3rd.
