The deadline to submit petitions to run in the 2021 primary election passed earlier this week and we now know who is running for the three seats up for election on Conshohocken’s Borough Council and for mayor. The election will be held on May 18th.

While all the Republicans are running unopposed, three of the four races on the Democratic side have a competitive primary.

Ward 2

James Ike Griffin (incumbent)
Adrian Serna (endorsed by party)

The Democrat primary is interesting because Griffin is a long-serving incumbent and the local Democratic Committee endorsed a political newcomer. This is the smallest ward and in the 2017 primary Griffin won by receiving just 17 votes.

The Democratic primary is interesting in that Eckert previously ran for mayor in 2009 and lost by just two votes (winning five of seven wards, including Ward 4). Newer residents might not recognize the name, but he is very well known by long-time residents, especially due to his years coaching youth sports.

This is an interesting race in that incumbent Robert Stokley has decided to not run, so it’s an open seat. In recent years, it is also the only seat that has been consistently held by a Republican. The Conshohocken Democratic Committee did not endorse a candidate in this race.
