  4. Our Formal Wear Drive has arrived! From now until the end of February 2020 the Library is accepting donations of new and gently-used: formal dresses shoes (for men and women) evening bags jewelry suits and tuxes ties other mens formal accessories Why are we having a Formal Wear Drive? Well, according to a 2015 study from Visa, the average American family is spending almost $1,000 on prom. The formal outfit (especially the dress) alone can cost several hundred dollars. Additionally, there are other formal occasions besides prom that can be a financial burden to many families: Homecoming dances, Bar Mitzvahs and Bat Mitzvahs, etc. We wanted to be able to help teens attend formal occasions without worrying about the cost of the outfit. In 2017 we launched our first Prom Dress Drive, and received almost 300 dresses! (Want to see what our community room looked like with all those dresses? Click here!) We were absolutely astounded by the generosity of our donors. Last year we decided to open it up to menswear as well. We received almost 400 dresses and upwards of 50 suits and tuxes. Around 100 teens attending 32 different schools from all over south-eastern PA came to the drive. We hope to make the 2020 drive and giveaway just as amazing! Donations can be dropped off at the Library any time while the Library is open. Receipts will be available if you would like one for tax purposes. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Teen Librarian Sara Huff at shuff@mclinc.org or 610-828-0441, ext. 113. Interested in receiving a FREE formal outfit? Come to our giveaway days from Thursday, March 19th – Sunday March 22nd. They are open to any teen, no questions asked.
