    David Webner, M.D., the team physician of the Philadelphia Union, will discuss sports-related concussions and the future of treating brain injuries at Chestnut Hill College’s upcoming 27th Annual Biomedical Distinguished Lecture Series.

    The lecture, “Sport-Related Concussion: What We’ve Learned and Where We’re Heading,” begins at 2:00 p.m. on Mar. 11 in the East Parlor of St. Joseph Hall. The event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the college’s Center for Concussion Education and Research.

    Webner is a sports medicine and brain injury physician at the Healthplex Sports Medicine Institute and the director of Running Medicine for the Crozer-Keystone Health System. He is also the director of Crozer-Keystone’s Sports Medicine Fellowship Program and the current medical director for the Philadelphia Rock and Roll Half Marathon. A top rated doctor by Philadelphia Magazine and Main Line Today, he is also the team physician of the U.S. Olympic Men’s Soccer Team (under 23).

    Webner’s main research interests include endurance sports medicine and sports concussions. He is currently engaged in studies on sudden cardiac arrest in U.S. marathon runners and sports concussion in contact and collision athletes. His sports medicine practice includes recreational, amateur, and professional athletes of all ages with musculoskeletal injuries and sports-medicine conditions.

    The college’s Center for Natural and Behavioral Sciences presents the Biomedical Distinguished Lecture Series twice a year. Established in 1994, the series features internationally acclaimed professionals, including Nobel Laureates, who have made groundbreaking contributions in the biomedical field. It provides a forum for recent advances in biomedical research, exposing students and the community at large to prominent scientific and medical professionals.

    The 27th Annual Biomedical Distinguished Lecture Series begins at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 11 in the East Parlor of St. Joseph Hall at Chestnut Hill College, 9601 Germantown Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19118.
