Expect the Covanta Trash to Steam Plant to be Brought Up During Public Comment During Tonight’s Plymouth Township Council Meeting

During this evening’s public meeting of Plymouth Township’s Council, expect the Covanta Trash to Steam Plant to be brought up by residents during public comment.

The plant had a malfunction on December 30th which generated a loud noise.  People also reported a smell which Covanta claims was not connected to the malfunction at the plant.

Since this happened, local residents have created a Facebook group, Trash to Steam Plant Community Information & Action, which has grown to just under 100 members. The group has done a lot of research, including tabulating fines that have been levied against the plant in recent years.

One of the founders of the group, Sarah Derr Sterious, shared with MoreThanTheCurve.com what the group intends to discuss during the public comment portion of the meeting:

Concerned residents are going to attend the township meeting to discuss Covanta Plymouth and the lack of information provided about the 12/30/18 malfunction. Many residents are concerned about health and safety violations and $73,045 worth of fines over the past few years from the DEP.

We plan to attend this evening and will have more details tomorrow.

The meeting is scheduled for tonight at 7:00 p.m. at 700 Belvoir Road in Plymouth Meeting.
