Fayette Street road diet on agenda for Conshohocken’s borough council

On the February 4th agenda for Conshohocken’s borough council is a discussion on an RFP for traffic engineering services for the Fayette Street Road Diet Project.

Since 2016, Conshohocken’s borough council has studied a potential road diet for a portion of Fayette Street to help calm traffic.

As presented, the road diet would reduce a significant portion of Fayette Street to two lanes plus a turning lane. To move forward, the council must vote to approve a road diet plan, and PennDOT must approve any changes to Fayette Street, a state road. You can view a 2021 presentation by the borough’s engineer here.

In 2024, the council voted to apply for grants to help fund the project if it moves forward. On December 23, 2025, it was announced that the borough had been awarded $1,324,000 from Pennsylvania’s Multimodal Transportation Fund. MoreThanTheCurve.com confirmed that this funding would be applied towards any future road diet program.

This potential RFP would seek an engineer to design the road diet. The discussion could lead the council to not moving forward with exploring the road diet concept. It could also be the start of the process to get serious about it.

Deciding to engage an engineer does not mean they can’t decide against a road diet as they get further along in the process.

The meeting is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the borough hall.
