Flags placed at graves of veterans in Saint Matthew’s Cemetary as Memorial Day grows near

6ABC Action News was at Saint Matthew’s Cemetery in Conshohocken today to interview the veterans placing flags at the graves of veterans. Please note that the cemetery is misidentified as Saint Michael’s Cemetery.

Earlier this month, the Montgomery County Commissioners decided by a vote of 2-1 to not provide flags purchased by the county to be placed at cemeteries for Memorial Day. Commissioners Dr. Val Arkoosh and Ken Lawrence were concerned about the ability to place the flags safely during the pandemic. Commissioner Joe Gale supported releasing the flags to the veterans and community groups.

When the decision was made, the local VFW in Conshohocken raised funds to purchase flags on their own and continue the tradition.
