High school football at Garthwaite Stadium in Conshohocken on August 27th

Conshohocken’s A.A. Garthwaite Stadium will play host to a high school football game on Friday, August 27th at 6:00 p.m. The game will be a home game for Archbishop John Carroll High School (which is in Radnor). Carroll will face Pope John Paul II High School (which is in Royersford).

Pope John Paul II High School has a historic tie to Conshohocken as it is the product of the consolidation of Catholic high schools over the years. The history of the school dates back to the Civil War era and the establishment of Saint Matthew High School in Conshohocken.

In 1966, Saint Matthew High School was renamed Archbishop Kennedy High School in honor of its second principal. In the early 1990s, Archbishop Kennedy was merged with Bishop Kenrick on Norristown at the Norristown campus and the merged schools became Kennedy-Kenrick Catholic High School.

In 2008, it was announced that Kennedy-Kenrick would be merged with a Catholic high school in Pottstown at a new campus in Royersford. That school opened in 2010 and is Pope John Paul II High School.
