Learn about becoming a Scout during Epiphany’s Community Festival in Plymouth Meeting on Sunday, September 7th

Scouts from Troop 117 in Plymouth Meeting, along with Cub Scout Pack 117, will be participating in Epiphany of Our Lord’s third annual Parish Community Festival on Sunday, September 7th, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Troop 117 has prepared a monkey bridge for children and adults to traverse. Haven’t heard of a monkey bridge? Scouts construct these bridges using wood and rope, providing them with a valuable opportunity to practice their knot-tying skills and learn fundamental engineering principles.

The money bridge is scheduled to open at noon and be available throughout the day.

Cub Scouting is for youth in kindergarten through fifth grade. Youth can join Scouts BSA if they are at least 10 years old, currently in the fifth grade, and register on or after March 1. To be a Scout, previous experience with Cub Scouts is not required. If you can’t make the event on September 7th, contact the Troop 117 at info.col117@troopmaster.com to learn more about Scouting.

Troop 117 is a very active troop that meets on Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. in Plymouth Meeting and takes eight camping trips each year. Recent trips have included canoeing, hiking through Gettysburg and the nation’s capital, and the annual Klondike Derby (a competitive cold-weather event where the Scouts pull a Scout-made sled to test their scouting skills, teamwork, and leadership).

During the summer, a week-long summer camp is also offered, where Scouts take classes to earn merit badges that expose them to a wide variety of subjects, fostering interest in new hobbies, careers, and life skills. This year, the summer camp was in Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay. Smaller groups of Scouts are currently preparing for a 10-day hike in New Mexico and the bi-annual National Jamboree in West Virginia. Older Scouts are preparing to earn their final rank of Eagle Scout, which is a nationally recognized certification of excellence.

In addition to the monkey bridge, the festival will include pumpkin decorating, moon bounces, bingo, sporting games, raffles, a bake sale, a zoo presentation, pony rides, music, and more. The parish is located at 3050 Walton Road in Plymouth Meeting.
