Liquor licenses at CHUBB Hotel & Conference Center and The ACE Club in Lafayette Hill in process of being transferred to the Union League

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control database shows the pending transfer of two liquor licenses from the current owners of the CHUBB Hotel & Conference Center and The ACE Club in Lafayette Hill to “Union League Liberty Hill, LLC.” A search for this business entity brings up an entry on Bizapedia.com that shows that the company was created in January of 2021 and its address is the Union League’s Center City address.

If the Union League is purchasing the conference center and golf course it will be the continuation of an expansion outside Center City that began in 2014. The members-only Union League acquired the former Torresdale Frankford Country Club in Philadelphia in 2014 and then added the former Sand Barrens Golf Club at the Jersey Shore in 2018. Both were rebranded with the Union League name (The Union League Golf Club at Torresdale and Union League National Golf Club). The club has also been adding to its dining portfolio with the addition of The Bungalow in Stone Harbor in 2014 and the Guard House in Gladwyne in 2017.

The Chubb Hotel & Conference Center and The ACE Club sit on 300 acres and include 120 hotel rooms, 42 meeting rooms, dining and lounge space, a fitness center, and a Gary Player-designed golf course (with its own clubhouse and dining).

In 2019, the current owner of the property began the process to seek the subdivision of the property (separating the golf course property from the conference center and hotel property). After moving through some steps of the process the application was withdrawn.

MoreThanTheCurve.com inquired with several people connected to the Union League and the conference center/golf course. We only received one reply and that person was unable to provide any information.

This is a developing story. More to come.
