News & Gossip

Just a few days after a mild earthquake shook Conshohocken, Hurricane Irene dropped a bunch of rain that resulted in dramatic, yet typical, flooding in Conshohocken.  The apartment buildings along Washington Street were evacuated and the train did not run from Saturday at midnight through Monday at 2:00 p.m.  There was not much wind damage beyond a mess of leaves and small branches.  There was at least one water rescue and the National Guard stationed a crew in town.

Flooding is nothing new in Conshy.  Here is a clip from the defunct Conshy Recorder that shows 1,000’s of logs that ended up at the Spring Mill Train Station after flooding in 2005.

Nut of the Week

Edwards-Freeman Nut Company has all types of nuts including Walnuts. A few things about Walnuts: Walnuts (185 calories per 14 halves or 1 ounce) are the only nuts that offer a significant amount of the omega-3 fat alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). ALA’s anti-inflammatory properties halt plaque buildup in the arteries that results when “bad” LDL cholesterol is oxidized.
