Pasta Via won the first annual Meatball Wars. Pictured above are Mary Shaffer, Pasta Via’s Betty Stanley, Betty’s mom and Jan Bettini. Shaffer, along with her husband Rick, and daughter Bettini organized the event. The event raised approximately $2,000 for $100 for 100, a program that provides nominated children with a chance to obtain jackets, shoes and other needed items from Dick’s Sporting Goods. To celebrate the win, Pasta Via has extended through December your opportunity to try their award winning meatballs and have a dollar donated to $100 for 100. Five Guys Burgers & Fries is set to open in early to mid December. They are opening at the corner of Butler and Ridge, where a Blockbuster use to be. They did not take over the whole footprint of the Blockbuster. A Game Stop has already opened in part of the space.
Conshohocken’s Borough Council is considering demolishing the Verizon Building.
In The Pocket: The Essential Songs of Philadelphia recorded a second song in Conshohocken last week. The all-star line-up brought together by the Hooters’ David Uosikkinen included Jeffery Gaines, Rick Difonzo, Eric Bazilian, Uosikkinen, William Wittman and Rob Hyman. The follow-up to “All My Mondays” is Nazz’s “Open My Eyes.” No release date is set yet, but you can hear the original version here. There was a story on the 30th anniversary of the Hooters on Philly.com, which mentions this project.
ASTM International continues to support Riverbend Environmental Education Center in its efforts to provide nature study programs to elementary school students. On Oct. 27, third-grade students from Conshohocken Elementary School presented Kathleen McClung, a Staff Manager at ASTM, with a thank you card for supporting the school’s Nature Club program. The program extends classroom instruction in an after-school setting. The following day, the Conshohocken Elementary third-graders visited the Riverbend site in Gladwyne, Pa. The students took a moment from examining the insects, spiders and other invertebrates they had caught with sweep nets to pose with Kathie Morgan, Vice President, Technical Committee Operations, ASTM, at a solar playhouse in the meadow.
Philadelphia’s Mike Jones won his welterweight bout at Cowboys Stadium a couple weeks ago. His fight was part of the Pacquiao-Margarito pay per view card. Prior to the fight, Jones had an aquatic workout at Conshohocken Physical Therapy. You can view video of the work out here.
Center City’s Govberg Jewelers held a fundraiser last week for Project Home and asked the guests to donate a jar of peanut butter. Edwards-Freeman Nut Company offered to match this contribution jar for jar.

A bunch of people from Conshohocken participated in the Philadelphia Marathon. Finishing in 8th place overall was Ross Martinson, who is a co-owner of Philadelphia Runner.

The 63rd Annual Children’s Christmas Party and the 31st Annual Senior Dinner willl be held on Saturday, December 11th, and hosted by the Rec Council volunteers. The Children’s Party starts at 12:30 p.m. and the Senior Dinner starts at 2:30 p.m. Both events are held at the George Clay Fire Hall. The children’s event is open to resident children and grandchildren 12 years old and younger. Tickets are free for Children’s party and must be picked up by December 5th from Rec members: Kathy Schermerhorn, Karen Hodges, or Pat Zapien. The Senior Dinner is open to residents and former residents, 55 years and up. Please call Florence by December 5th to make your reservations. Admission to both events (if you are able) is a non-perishable food item, or a foil, paper, or plastic product. Volunteers are needed to help decorate the Fire House on Friday, Dec 3rd after 4:00 p.m.

PointRoll is leaving Conshohocken for KOP.
AlphaOne, a West Conshohocken specialty equity-asset-management firm, announced that Mark Ouimet joined the firm as a managing director responsible for business development and client management. Ouimet had been a senior business-development manager for domestic and global financial institutions at Aberdeen Asset Management and a senior vice president, national sales manager at Gartmore Global Investments Inc.
Conshohocken’s NSM Insurance Group continues to expand and announced its acquisition of a program specializing in non-construction ocean and inland marine coverage.
