Man at ‘No Kings’ protest who was found with 13 homemade explosives in his home had no clear motive, DA says

Kevin Krebs, 31, of Malvern, who was arrested on weapons charges at a “No Kings” protest in West Chester on Saturday, June 14, told police and the FBI that he had planned to peacefully protest but brought the gun because he wanted to feel safe, NBC10 reported today.

Krebs came to the protest with an unlicensed Sig Sauer P320 handgun, nine fully loaded magazines, a bayonet, pepper spray, a ski mask, along with an AR-15-style rifle, night vision goggles, and a gas mask in his vehicle.

The Montgomery County Bomb and Hazardous Device Disposal Unit disposed of 13 improvised explosive devices which were found during a subsequent search of his home. Family of Krebs told police that he is on the autism spectrum, NBC10 said. He is facing dozens of additional charges for the homemade bombs.

Chester County District Attorney Chris de Barrena-Sarobe said during a press conference that their investigation has not located a plan to commit an act of terrorism, but he did want to protest some of President Trump’s policies.

“We continue to investigate whether this entire incident amounted to a thwarted act of domestic terrorism but in the end we have a ton of work to do before we can make that determination,” Barrena-Sarobe said. “But one thing is absolutely clear, the work of Chester County law enforcement prevented an incredibly dangerous situation from unfolding at the ‘No Kings’ rally in West Chester that Saturday.”

The investigation also found that Krebs is not a “super partisan person,” de Barrena-Sarobe said.

Online court records reveal Krebs was previously cited for operating a vehicle without official certificate of inspection and he pleaded guilty to driving an unregistered vehicle.

He was initially released on $250,000 bail and was rearrested following the search of his home. He is currently being held in Chester County prison awaiting his preliminary hearing on July 3, NBC10 said.
