On the July 14th agenda for Plymouth Township’s council is a motion to adopt a resolution that would create a traffic calming policy for the township.
From the text of the proposed policy:
Plymouth Township’s Traffic Calming Policy is designed to address traffic concerns in residential areas of the Township, such as speeding, high volume, cut through traffic and pedestrian safety.
The main goal of the Township’s Traffic Calming Program is to work in cooperation with neighborhoods to preserve the residential and commercial character of the Township’s neighborhoods and improve the overall quality of life within them.
The policy creates a set of definitions and criteria for the township’s roads and residential neighborhoods and a system for the public to seek traffic calming measures for a roadway. If 70% of property owners along the roadway sign a petition, the police department would initiate a traffic study on the roadway, which would lead to recommendations on traffic calming.
The implementation of the recommended traffic calming measures is not guaranteed. First, they are prioritized and reprioritized on an annual basis. The council must also allocate funding for them.
