This was in response to complaints that a 2017 law that loosened the regulations went too far and led to fireworks being shot off in neighborhoods on a regular basis over the summer months. Under the updated state law, municipalities can now prohibit the use of fireworks in areas where the building density doesn’t provide for a 150-foot setback. The state also now allows municipal governments to limit the use of fireworks between 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. There are exceptions such as Independence Day and New Year’s Eve when they can be shot off until 1:00 a.m.

On the October 11th agenda for Plymouth Township’s Council is a proposed ordinance that would amend the township’s code as it pertains to fireworks. The proposed ordinance would align the township’s code with the new state law.
