On the August 7th agenda for Conshohocken’s borough council are items such as an update on the renovations at Second Avenue Veteran’s Park, a resolution extending Daniel’s ability to utilize parking spaces along East 1st Avenue for outdoor dining, and a discussion on amending the zoning code pertaining to group homes.
The presentation involving the park will be provided by Ray Sokolowski, the borough’s executive director of operations. The park started in 1928 as the Conshohocken Veterans Memorial, with The Family statue being added in 1999. In 2022, there was an initial presentation about closing most of West 2nd Avenue between Fayette and Forrest streets to create a pocket park that would include the memorial and
statue, along with a stage, a semi-covered lawn area, new land and hardscaping, and seating. Since that presentation, the street has been closed, and the statue was removed for repairs.
The council will also consider approving a resolution that would extend the temporary no-parking area on First Avenue at the intersection with Harry Street. A few months ago, this area was temporarily established on a trial basis to allow Daniel’s to offer outdoor seating in spaces normally used as street parking.
There will also be a discussion on amending the borough’s zoning ordinance to include provisions for group homes. In recent months, two property owners sought zoning relief involving parking requirements needed to operate group homes. One has been approved, and the other is on the agenda for the zoning hearing board on August 19th.
The meeting is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the borough hall at 400 Fayette Street.
