Pre-K through 12th-grade private school seeking to open campus in Plymouth Meeting

The Grayson School, Pennsylvania’s only independent, non-profit school created specifically for gifted learners in grades Pre-K through 12, is seeking to open a school at 1 IMS Drive in Plymouth Meeting (Plymouth Township). The property is 16.51 acres and is currently a vacant office building. The school has a campus at 100 Matsonford in Wayne. It is not clear, based on the paperwork submitted to the township, whether the school would move or open a second campus. The school currently has 170 students but seeks to grow to 450 students.

The property is located in a limited industrial zoning district, which allows daycare and nurseries by special exceptions (which can be granted by the elected Plymouth Township Council). If it is determined that the use of the property as a Pre-K through 12th-grade school is not similar enough to a daycare or nursery, the school would need to seek a variance from the zoning code from the township’s zoning hearing board.

The issue will first be heard by the township’s planning agency (agenda) on March 1st at 7:00 p.m. The planning agency can make a recommendation to either the council or zoning hearing board on the proposal.
