Update on Butler Pike Closure

Yesterday it was announced that Butler Pike was being closed between Germantown Pike and Flourtown/Plymouth Roads. At the time, it was described as being due to “structural road issues at the railroad bridge.”

Today, a member of Plymouth Township’s Council, Karen Bramblett, posted on Facebook about the closure and described the issue as a “sinkhole.” Here is the post:

Butler Pike will be closed for an unknown period due to a sinkhole on the Whitemarsh side of Butler, in the vicinity of the railroad overpass in Cold Point Village. The closure extends from Germantown Pike to Flourtown/Plymouth Roads.

This is the second time this decade a sinkhole has close a major thoroughfare in this area. In 2015, a sinkhole on Plymouth Road closed that road between Germantown Pike and Butler Pike for almost six months (having it reopened within six months involved the state fast tracking the project).

More to come.
