During a press conference today, Montgomery County officials announced 123 new cases of Coronavirus in the county. That brings the total to 4,734 countywide.

Yesterday the number was 44. Why the jump? According to County Commissioner Dr. Val Arkoosh 77 of the 123 cases are from two long-term care facilities that tested all of their residents.

Dr. Arkoosh is encouraging the long-term care facilities to conduct such mass testing. Today, she also came out firmly against not including positive test results within the number used in the formula to meet Governor Wolf’s requirement to move from phase red to phase yellow and begin to reopen.

The death toll due to Coronavirus rose has risen by 26 in the county. Note that this number is larger than normal, but includes deaths from April 13th to May 6th. The total number of death countywide is now 379. The probable number of deaths is 162. Long-term care facility residents represent 310 of the 379 deaths (82 percent).

• Whitemarsh is at 116 cases, which is the same as yesterday
  • There have been 11 deaths overall in Whitemarsh
• Plymouth is at 84 cases, which is the same as yesterday
  • There have been four deaths overall in Plymouth
• West Conshohocken is at six cases, which is two more than yesterday
  • There have been zero deaths in West Conshohocken

The county’s testing site has tested 3,655 people between April 16th to May 4th. Results are in from 3,457 and 520 have tested positive. The daily average is currently holding steady at about 15%.

Ninety-one long-term care facilities report at least one positive case. There are 1,274 residents have tested positive and 511 staff members. Not all residents and staff members reside in Montgomery County.
