Angelo’s “hopes” to open a location in Conshohocken

Since Angelo’s moved its bread-baking operation to the former Conshohocken Italian Bakery on Jones Street in Conshohocken, everyone has been wondering if they intend to open a restaurant in Conshy as well.

On July 17th, Angelo’s announced that it is opening a location in Mt. Ephraim, NJ. In a follow-up Instagram Story, Angelo’s owner, Danny DiGiampietro, mentioned what the plans are in Conshohocken.

The Philadelphia Business Journal published an article titled “Angelo’s Pizzeria opening locations in South Jersey and Conshohocken,” about the announcement, which people are sharing all over social media and to our inbox. The headline suggests that a plan for Conshohocken is definitive.

The article is based on what DiGiampietro says in an Instagram Story.

In the Instagram Story, DiGiampietro states that things are “moving along” regarding the opening of a location in Conshohocken, but then corrects himself and says that they “hope” to open a place in Conshy. It also sounds like he starts to say “zoning,” but doesn’t finish the word.

Speculation.

Multiple people have told MoreThanTheCurve.com that Angelo’s looked at the former Donut House/Jimmy John’s space at 101 Fayette Street in Conshohocken. That space was eventually leased by Pop’s Steaks.

Why would they be looking for a location other than the bakery? The bakery is located within a residential zoning district. The bakery use is grandfathered in, but Angelo’s would need to seek zoning relief to open a cheesesteak and/or pizza shop there. Receiving zoning relief is not a guarantee, especially for a business that is widely popular and would bring more people and vehicles into a residential area.

Do we think there will be an Angelo’s in Conshohocken in the future? Yes. But it does not sound as definitive as the Journal’s headline at this point.

It will be interesting to see how this develops.
