In recent weeks, Pennsylvania officials have warned local businesses with skill games on their premises to remove them by October 14th or face potential prosecution. Skill games, often found in bars and restaurants, social clubs, convenience stores, gas stations, grocery stores, laundromats, pizza parlors, and other businesses, operate on a revenue-sharing model between the machine owners and the business owner who operate the machines on their premises.
The warnings are a result of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling in June 2026 that skill games are, in fact, “slot machines” that fall under the state’s Gaming Act. In Pennsylvania, slot machines are only permitted in casinos and qualifying truck stops. Following the ruling, business owners with skill games were notified of the deadline to remove them, barring the state legislature and governor from addressing the issue. That didn’t happen.
6ABC’s Caroline Goggin reported from VFW Post 1074 in Conshohocken, where skill game machines were removed just prior to the deadline. In the report, a representative of the VFW offered that it has used the additional revenue to support local organizations. You can watch the report below.
