The Conshohocken Historical Society produced a short documentary in 1994 on the history of football in Conshohocken titled “A Century of Football.” This documentary was funded by various businesses and individuals in Conshohocken and directed by Jack Coll a local businessman and historian. Hosting the documentary was then 6ABC Action News sports reporter Phil Andrews.
This documentary was recently digitized by the Conshohocken Historical Society from the first 34 minutes and 42 seconds of a one-hour long VHS tape. Much to our surprise (and probably because VHS tapes were at one time very valuable) we also discovered some Conshohocken football “bonus” material. Unfortunately, we can only partially identify this material. Any help concerning this material, including identifying individuals appearing in this material, would be appreciated.
Following are the details:
- From the beginning of the video until 34 minutes and 42 seconds you can view the documentary produced by the Conshohocken Historical Society.
- From about 34 minutes until 42 seconds, you can view we think four different football games taped with a camera located on the upper deck of the A field. There is no sound. You can clearly see jersey numbers but nothing to indicate which teams are playing. We assume that at least one of the teams in each of the four games is either St Matthews or Conshohocken High School
- From about 51 minutes 45 seconds until the end of the video you can view the Golden Bears Youth Football League parade proceeding up Fayette Street. Players and cheerleaders divided by weight category (including flag football participants) can be seen along with Fire Trucks from the local fire Companies. Based on the appearance of the Power Rangers at the end of the parade we would estimate that this parade occurred in the mid-1990s which was when the Power Rangers franchise was most popular.
