A look back | Poor man’s supper on Ash Wednesday in 1976 at SS. Cosmas and Damian Parish

The Catholic Historical Research Center of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia shared a tweet today that featured a Poor Man’s Supper held on Ash Wednesday in 1976 at SS. Cosmas and Damian Parish in Conshohocken.

The priest pictured in the photos is then pastor and later Bishop Louis De Simone. The nun pictured giving out rice bowls (as part of Operation Rice Bowl) is Sister Helen Constance.

SS. Cosmas and Damian Parish, along with two other nearby parishes, was merged with Saint Matthew Parish in 2016. The church and property are now St. Mary and St. Mercurius Coptic Orthodox Church of Greater Philadelphia.
