On Saturday, March 1st at 5:22 p.m., first responders were called to the area of the Cleveland-Cliffs steel plants along the 700 block of Conshohocken Road in Conshohocken (Plymouth Township) due to reports of heavy smoke in the area.
Plymouth Fire Company No. 1 reports that it responded and discovered that a transformer had blown, resulting in downed “multiple high voltage” lines. The downed lines set an area of grass on fire between the plant and the roadway, and high winds helped spread the fire.
Plymouth Fire Company No. 1, with the assistance of Harmonville Fire Company No.1, Conshohocken Fire Company No. 2, and the Norristown Fire Department, extinguished the fire. Firefighters continued to soak the area until departing the scene at 7:00 p.m. No injuries were reported.
