The Conshohocken Police Department made a social media post on August 15th that there has been a recent rise in car thefts throughout the area. According to the police, the thieves are targeting newer models Hondas and similar vehicles with the “push to start” feature.
The post mentions that an investigation into the thefts is underway and then offers several tips to help secure your vehicle. The tips are:
- The most important thing is to always ensure your vehicles are locked. Many thefts occur simply because the actors find unlocked car doors.
- Ensure you know where all your key fobs are. There have been instances where people leave their main keys or even their spare keys in their vehicles, which would allow the actors to gain entry to the vehicles.
- Invest in an anti-theft device. There are many options to choose from whether it’s the old-fashioned Club or a more advanced Steering Wheel Brake Lock. If used as designed, these are great tools to deter auto thefts.
- Invest in a faraday pouch or faraday box to store your keys in when you’re home. These devices block the radio frequency used by your keys to communicate with your car. Thieves can capture these signals while your keys are in your house.
- Place an Apple Air Tag or similar tracking device in your vehicle. While this won’t stop the theft, it could lead to recovering a stolen vehicle. When putting the device in your vehicle, make sure to hide it in a spot not easily seen.
While these are just a few easy and affordable options, we remind everyone to be vigilante. If you see any unusual activity, don’t hesitate to call the police 610-828-4032. We remind everyone to not approach anyone they believe may be engaged in criminal activity.
