There were several Memorial Day observances around the Borough on Monday, including the final event at East 5th and Spring Mill in front of the VFW (where the cannon is located).  Pictured is a local sailor saluting during the service.

As I mentioned in previous posts, the Philadelphia Fight, the rugby team that makes its home in Conshy, hosted a tournament over Memorial Day week featuring teams from around the USA and from as far away as New Zealand.  It was a great event that saw the the New Zealand Police Fencibles win the tournament.  Here the Fencibles are pictured doing the HAKA, a traditional dance of New Zealand’s Maori people, before their last match.  The Fight claimed the “Trophy” winning the consolation bracket.  In other Fight news, 8 East is now the title sponsor of the Fight, so the Fight are now referred to as the “8 East Philadelphia Fight.”  8 East is considered the clubhouse for the team and hosts post-game parties.  The next home match for the Fight will be on June 11th against the Oneida FC out of Boston.

Construction engineer Jerry Gorski of Gorski Engineering in Conshohocken was pictured in and interviewed for a story on the lingering economic problems in the USA Today.

Conshohocken’s Isabella made a splash this week.  First it received a “very good” rating from the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Craig LaBan.  The review was picked up by the major regional food blogs like FooBooz and GrubStreet, so if you read those type of sites, it was impossible not to read about Isabella.  Then on Tuesday, Chef Michael Cappon was on NBC10’s 10! Show cooking mussels in roasted tomato jus with crisp potato and arugula salad.  You can see the entire clip by clicking the screen capture below:

Style of Man, a salon for men, is opening at 10:00 a.m. every Tuesday through Sunday.

Conshohocken’s Peg Botto, formally of Cosmic Catering, has opened Cosmic Cafe within Lloyd Hall in Fairmount Park (basically the boathouse closest to the art museum).  The menu includes breakfast sandwiches, deli-style lunch sandwiches, fresh-cut potato chips and daily specials.  Eventually they also plan to open an outdoor barbecue tent along the waterfront on the weekends.
