Saint Joseph’s University has announced that the university’s head women’s basketball coach, Cindy Griffin, will be inducted into the Philadelphia Big 5 Hall of Fame with the Class of 2026. Griffin will be recognized with La Salle’s Ashley Gale, Villanova’s Laura Kurz, Temple’s Shey Peddy, and Penn’s Zack Rosen during the Men’s Toyota Big 5 Classic at the Xfinity Mobile Arena on Saturday, December 5, and the Women’s Big 5 Classic at The Palestra on Sunday, December 6. Griffin is a resident of Conshohocken (Plymouth Township).
From Saint Joseph’s University’s announcement:
Griffin (née Anderson) built a standout legacy on Hawk Hill as a stellar point guard from 1987 to 1992. Griffin served as a three-year team captain and led the Hawks to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and four Big 5 titles during her playing career. An invitee to the 1989 U.S. Olympic Festival’s East Team, she went on to garner All-Big 5 honors twice and 1992 Atlantic 10 All-Conference accolades in her final season. Griffin’s floor generalship left a lasting mark on the program’s record book as she led the Hawks in assists for three years (1990 through 1992) and steals during the 1991 season and ranks among the program’s career leaders in assists (511), steals (197) and three-point field goal percentage (.364).
Griffin was inducted into the SJU Basketball Hall of Fame in 1998. She is in her 26th season as the head coach at Saint Joseph’s and is the program’s all-time leader in wins with 442 victories.
