Get ready. That knock on the door you hear this spring might not be someone looking to get a copy of your PECO bill. The commonwealth’s dog wardens are coming!

The Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement, which is part of the Department of Agriculture, is responsible for ensuring the welfare of breeding dogs and puppies in commercial breeding kennels. The office also regulates activities pertaining to dogs that are classified as dangerous, and oversees annual licensure and rabies vaccinations for dogs.

“Pennsylvania state law requires all dogs three months and older be licensed by Jan. 1 of each year. State dog wardens will be going door to door to speak with dog owners and check the status of their dog licenses,” said Montgomery County Treasurer Jason Salus.

When he isn’t selling insurance, Salus is the County Treasurer and locally oversees the licensing for dogs.
