Eagles, Hurts to conquer Jets, 30-20, in a much-needed bounce-back effort

The Philadelphia Eagles and Jalen Hurts are coming off an ugly loss, with Hurts throwing three INTS and the Eagles turning the ball over four times in a 13-6 defeat to the New York Giants. In spite of the Giants’ best effort to give the game to the Eagles a couple late Jalen Reagor drops sealed the deal for the Giants.

Looking to bounce back the Eagles (5-7) once again head to the Meadowlands this time to face off against the New York Jets (3-8). According to the latest odds on WynnBET the Eagles are six and half point road favorites and the game total is sitting at 45.5. If the Eagles want to keep their playoff hopes alive they’ll need to get a victory against the Jets, who are 2-3 this year at home.

Key Defensive Matchup

The Eagles defense played pretty well even in a loss against the New York Giants and should match up well against the Jets offense. The Eagles’ defense however failed to create a turnover against the Giants and they can’t afford to do that against the Jets. The Eagles’ offense could really benefit with great field position from a turnover, or even a defensive TD. Eagles CB Darrius Slay has three defensive TDs this year and the Eagles will need him to continue to live up to his ‘Big Play Slay’ nickname against rookie QB Zach Wilson.

Key Offensive Matchup

QB Jalen Hurts is dealing with a sore ankle and there was even some discussion earlier in the week if he was going to be the starter. It looks like he’s going to play through the pain and gut it out against a team that is dead last in defensive DVOA, so there should be plenty of opportunities on the ground and through the air. Hurts’ rushing ability may be limited, so Boston Scott will need to have a big game to elevate the physical run game. Additionally, they need to figure out a way to get DeVonta Smith more involved in the offense.  The rookie WR has been dynamic but is often overlooked in the run-heavy approach.

The Pick

I may be tempted to take the Jets here as a home dog as part of my NFL picks, however, the Eagles are coming off an embarrassing loss and the Jets an ugly win. This Eagles team responded after they lost badly in Las Vegas, destroying the Detroit Lions the following week, and this week’s scenario is very similar. The Eagles are playing a below-average Jets team after a horrific division loss, so they get things right again this week, winning 30-20.
