  4. Chestnut Hill College presents “An Evening With the Experts,” a panel discussion that explores the highs and lows of life in a stepfamily. The event will be held on Friday, May 3 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the college’s SugarLoaf Campus at 9220 Germantown Ave. The event is free and open to the public. The discussion will be led by four of the field’s foremost experts, who have a combined 11 decades of experience as therapists, family life educators, and researchers working with stepfamilies. Each will share what they have learned about helping stepfamily members face some of the common, and not so common, challenges associated with being part of a “blended family.” The last half of the event will be reserved for audience participation and Q&A. The four stepfamily experts presenting at the event are: Scott Browning, Ph.D., a professor of psychology at Chestnut Hill College; Patricia Papernow, Ed.D., the author of “Surviving and Thriving in Stepfamily Relationships: What Works and What Doesn’t”; Brad van Eeden-Moorefield, Ph.D., an associate professor in the department of family and child studies and director of the Ph.D. program in family studies at Montclair State University; and Francesca Adler-Baeder, Ph.D., a professor in human development and family studies at Auburn University and the founder of the National Stepfamily Resource Center. Additionally, Chestnut Hill College will hold a two-day workshop at SugarLoaf on Friday, May 3, and Saturday, May 4, titled “Understanding and Treating Stepfamilies.” The college has partnered with the National Stepfamily Resource Center and the Philadelphia Association of Couple and Family Psychology to bring together the four aforementioned experts to teach therapists how to effectively treat stepfamilies. By connecting research, prevention, and clinical theory, the two-day workshop will provide attendees with the tools present in the evidence-based practices that are used to treat this challenging clinical population. Along with sophisticated and current lectures, this workshop will also feature a created stepfamily so that live psychotherapy can be demonstrated by Papernow and Browning. It includes two days of training, evening community presentation, and both lunch and afternoon snacks. To register, please click here. . Discounted rate for PACFP members is $250; for graduate students, $150. The events take place on May 3–4 at the Commonwealth Chateau at Sugarloaf, 9220 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19118.
