Follow-up to Conshohocken Cab article. A reduced fare shuttle program for seniors is already available

Following MoreThanTheCurve.com’s publication of the article about the Conshohocken Cab’s ridership and cost, many people in the comments stated that they believed that the shuttle service should be more senior-friendly, mentioning things like where the stops are located and long walks to them.

While the Conshohocken Cab offers service at 20 stops in and just outside the Borough of Conshohocken, there is an already existing “curb-to-curb” shuttle service offered at a low cost to seniors that is funded by the Pennsylvania State Lottery. In this case, the shuttle stops at your front door and drops you in front of your destination based on a pre-determined schedule. No walking to stops blocks away. No rushing to not miss the shuttle. This service is referred to as the “Senior Share Ride” and is available through Transnet, which just so happens to be the organization that provides the shuttle for the Conshohocken Cab.

From the Transnet website:

Thanks to Pennsylvania State Lottery proceeds, mature adults age 65 and older have an economical, safe, efficient, curb-to-curb transportation option in Montgomery County. With one call a day before transportation is needed, you can arrange to share a discounted-fare ride with others in a sedan or van, within multiple service areas in Montgomery County. Senior Shared Ride service may be limited to specific days and times. Please contact the Call Center at (215) 542-RIDE (7433) for details.

The Senior Share Ride offers a much wider and comprehensive service area, and the fare is between $4.95 (less than three miles) and $11.25 (more than 25 miles), so it is a little more expensive when it comes to competing rides offered by the Conshohocken Cab within its limited service area. However, the Conshohocken Cab doesn’t stop at your home or at the exact spot you need to travel to. This program also offers those with disabilities the same service, and those between 60-64 a limited number of rides per month. There is an application for this service, which you can find here.
