The Philadelphia Inquirer reported on the story of Joe Sperone, a former college baseball player who left his job at Freedom Mortgage in Conshohocken after being signed by the Texas Tailgaters. The team is one of the teams that the Savannah Bananas play in their appearances across the country.

The pitcher grew up in Broomall and played baseball at Cardinal O’Hara and West Chester University. This weekend, Sperone will be playing at Citizens Bank Park for the sold-out Tailgators vs. Bananas game.

Not familiar with the Bananas? The Savannah Bananas and the other teams in the league play what is referred to as “Banana Ball.”, which emphasizes showmanship, fan participation, and quick-paced games.
