Gov. Shapiro announces that SNAP delayed benefits will be distributed by ‘this evening’

Governor Josh Shapiro of Abington Township announced today that Pennsylvanians who were expecting SNAP benefits this month should start to see funds in their accounts “this evening, by midnight or so“.

The announcement follows Thursday’s ruling by a federal judge that the Trump administration must fully fund SNAP.

“After we won in court yesterday, we moved quickly to start getting benefits loaded on EBT cards and out the door — and we’re working to get every Pennsylvanian currently waiting for federal food assistance benefits what they’re owed,” Shapiro said in a post.

Shapiro was joined by Pennsylvania Department of Human Services Secretary Val Arkoosh, a resident of Springfield Township, during the announcement.

“Now the Trump Administration, after getting that ruling, couldn’t get their act together quick enough,” Shapiro said during a Friday afternoon press conference. “But you know who did get their act together real quick? Secretary Arkoosh, and the team at the Department of Human Services.”

The USDA reportedly said they are notifying states that they are working towards paying November SNAP benefits in full. The USDA’s letter states that “later today, FNS will complete the processes necessary to make funds available to support your subsequent transmittal of full issuance files to your EBT processor.”

Yesterday, the Shapiro administration announced that $288,992 of the $5 million set aside as part of a disaster emergency went to the Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank. The notice also said that a total of $2 million has been raised from private donors through the new SNAP Emergency Relief Fund.
