Saint Gertrude Parish in West Conshohocken was merged with the other Roman Catholic parishes in the 19428 zip code at Saint Matthew Parish in Conshohocken in 2014. The Saint Gertrude property was then purchased by the Borough of West Conshohocken in 2016 for $1,250,000.
Since the purchase, the Borough of Conshohocken hasn’t figured out how to utilize the property for itself. It looks like it is now looking to sell or lease the property and Villanova and Temple appear to be interested.
From the minutes of the April 10th meeting of West Conshohocken’s Borough Council:
We emailed the Borough Manager to inquire what this actually means and did not receive a response. The sale or lease of property is one of the things that governments do not have to discuss in public. It can be handled in an executive session, but the vote has to occur publicly.
We will try to find out more and provide an update.
UPDATE – A member of West Conshohocken’s Borough Council shared on Facebook that “The proposals from Villanova and Temple University were to do studies/consulting work to determine best uses for the property.”
