March 2025 crime data for Plymouth Township

Kudos to the new Plymouth Township Manager Matt West for making the agendas for council meetings more transparent. With the agenda for the March 14th meeting of the township council, the township included reports from its various departments for the first time.

One of the reports is from the police department. It provides numbers for major incidents, lesser crimes, arrests, and accidents and generally shows how the department’s officers are needed around the township.

For example, the retail centers generated 70 calls for retail theft, while police were called to hotels 84 times. On the roads, police made 576 traffic stops and issued 127 citations.

Crimes described in the report as “Part I/Part II Offenses,” ranging from homicide down to public drunkness, resulted in 177 investigations and 121 arrests.

One notable data point is that 16 responses involved an incident involving a gun. That means officers handled situations involving a firearm every other day.

Police are also kept busy responding to issues involving mental health and the unhoused. Overall, there were 41 social services contacts.
