Memorial Day Event to Announce Multi-Million Dollar Project to Build Eight New Homes for Transitioning Military Veterans in Whitemarsh Township

Pennsylvania American Legion Post #10 in Fort Washington and POWER Home Remodeling Group of Chester, PA, join forces this Memorial Day, May 30th, to announce a multi-million dollar project to build eight new homes for transitioning military veterans on the grounds of Post 10. The event begins at 1:00 PM.

Attending this ceremony will be numerous Gold Star families, veterans of WWII through Iraq and Afghanistan, elements of the 55th and 56th brigades of the U.S. Army to sport cutting edge military hardware, a mounted color guard by First Troop Philadelphia City Cavalry, and performances by the Orpheus Club of Philadelphia. The ceremony will culminate with a free BBQ picnic with food, drink and live music provided by the American Legion and Bonner’s Irish Pub, of Philadelphia.

Dignitaries attending the event include a White House-appointed Department of Defense official (to be announced on Sunday per Pentagon operational security guidelines), Major General Walter Lord from the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Senator Pat Toomey, Lieutenant Governor Mike Stack, Congressman Pat Meehan, numerous members of the PA Legislature, county commissioners and local public officials.

In addition, Sebastian Junger, creator of the documentary RESTREPO and bestselling author of THE PERFECT STORM and WAR is confirmed as headline speaker at this year’s ceremony. His newest book, TRIBE, released two days ago on May 24. A Q/A with Junger, to include a book signing, will follow the 60-minute ceremony.

Due to enhanced crowd size this year, Bethlehem Pike will be closed during the ceremony. Older veterans and persons with disabilities will be permitted to park on-site. All others will park at Germantown Academy by following the road detour. Twelve shuttles will carry event goers to the event site.
