NBC10’s Deanna Durante report on incident that led to two injured Plymouth Township police officers

NBC10’s Deanna Durante reported from the scene of today’s (October 24) attempted traffic stop that led to two Plymouth Township police officers being injured as they attempted to apprehend the driver of an SUV. The incident took place between 12:30 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. in the area of the DoubleTree Hotel off Hickory Road in Plymouth Meeting (Plymouth Township) and nearby Walton Road.

The incident started with a report that a vehicle was driving erratically. When the first officer attempted a traffic stop, investigators say the driver of the SUV purposely struck the police vehicle. The officer exited the vehicle, and then the driver, investigators say, purposely drove at the officer, who was able to fire his weapon, but was struck. It has not been reported whether the bullet hit the suspect or the SUV.

While the officer worked to apply a tourniquet to his injuries, the SUV returned and struck the officer three additional times before driving off, according to investigators.

A second police officer was injured when the police vehicle and an SUV collided head-on. Police were then able to apprehend the suspect.

The first police officer was transported by helicopter to a hospital, while the second was taken by ambulance. The suspect is also being treated at a hospital. The condition of each officer has not been released.
