The Colonial School Board accepted the bid from Penn Builders at its October 3rd meeting and the Colonial School District is now prepared to break ground on a new Colonial Middle School on Monday, October 21st at 5:00 p.m.

The new school will be built next to the old school in Plymouth Meeting. Construction is set to begin before the end of October. The new school should be completed in the fall of 2021. The old school will be demolished in the spring of 2022.

At a special meeting on October 3, the Colonial Board of School Directors approved Penn Builders, Inc., of Quakertown, Pa., as the general contractor for the new Colonial Middle School (CMS). Penn’s successful bid of $47,052,000 includes a base bid of $45,875,000. The Board also approved easement agreements with Plymouth Township, the Central Montco Technical High School (CMTHS) and residents bordering the construction site. In addition to building a new 232,000 square foot middle school, the project includes the construction of new athletic fields, parking lots, an access road for school buses on land currently owned by CMTHS and the township, and demolition of the current middle school. 

In addition to the groundbreaking, the school district will hold a community meeting on Tuesday, October 22nd at 6:00 p.m. in the current middle school auditorium. Attendees will be provided details on what to expect in the coming weeks and over the course of the next three years. Attendees will be able to view building designs, the location of the construction zone and construction staging area, a project timeline, and more.
