New restaurant planned for Whitemarsh Valley Inn building in Lafayette Hill

The former home of the Whitemarsh Valley Inn at 474 Germantown Pike in Lafayette Hill (Whitemarsh Township) has been rented. We have limited details at this time. According to Scott Mayer of Long & Foster who represented the property owner, the plan is for an Asian-fusion restaurant and the building is preparing to undergo renovations inside and out.

The building dates back to 1853 as the Marble Hall Lodge of the Odd Fellows. The property first had two homes on the first two floors and then the lodge on the third. The lodge operated until 1925. You can still find the stage on the third floor from where shows took place in the early days of the property.

Once prohibition ended, the entire building was converted into a tavern and was first known as Marble Hall Inn. In 1971 it was renamed The Wooden Nickel Tavern.

In 1990 the building was renovated and reopened as the Whitemarsh Valley Inn in 1991. It closed in 2020.

In 2021, the ownership of the nearby Persian Grill purchased the property and initially planned to open a second restaurant. That plan was shelved and the property was marketed to be rented.
