A new Pennsylvania Turnpike interchange that is Phase 4 of the Lafayette Street Project is getting closer to reality. The interchange is to be built near the Wawa along Ridge Pike near the intersection with Conshohocken Road.

Yesterday, the engineering firm involved added an event to MoreThanTheCurve.com’s Event Calendar (view event) that will provide the latest details on the project and answer questions from the public. From the notice:

During this meeting, you will be able to view project plans, review information on the noise analysis and mitigation, and view maps showing impacts to property owners, design, typical sections, environmental impacts, and construction schedules. Project team members will be on hand to answer questions about the project.

While the Lafayette Street interchange was conceived to help alleviate existing traffic problems and spur economic development in the vicinity of Norristown, the interchange will provide a new option for those in Conshohocken seeking to use the turnpike via West Elm Street/Conshohocken Road.

This new interchange could also result in more traffic utilizing the western avenues that connect with Colwell Lane in Conshohocken. Drivers may determine it is easier to take the avenues to Colwell Lane instead of crossing the bridge to take 476 to the turnpike or wanting to avoid Fayette Street/West Elm Street altogether.

Currently, the project is in the final design stage which is anticipated to be completed by the fall of 2024. No date is given for its expected construction.
