News & Gossip – Week of 12/13/10

News & Gossip

So what’s the deal with CountdownConshohocken.com?  A lot of the restaurants and bars in Conshy told me that New Year’s Eve has never been a big deal in Conshy.  Due to this, MoreThanTheCurve.com has partnered with the Philadelphia Nightlife Society to promote Conshohocken and West Conshohocken as a great place to celebrate the New Year.  It is already drawing attention and today a major venue in King of Prussia emailed me wanting to get involved, but I had to tell them that its Conshy-centric.  We are once again receiving great support from Londonbury at Millennium and today we secured E & J Gallo Winery as an additional sponsor.  There are eleven restaurants and bars participating and its a really good mix, with everything from Pepperoncini’s plan to smash all their plates at midnight to the “We Hate New Year’s Eve” party at the Great American Pub.  So please visit the site and see what every venue is doing for New Year’s Eve, stay local and invite all your friends to Conshy for the night.

So where did all that Meatball Wars money go?  On Saturday 100 area kids were invited to Dick Sporting Goods and provided a $100 gift card to shop for shoes, winter jackets and other items.  Pictured above is Rick Shaffer (left) who raises funds and coordinates $100 for 100 locally with his wife Mary and their children.

In the Pocket: The Essential Songs of Philadelphia, created and led by West Conshy’s David Uosikkinen, will be holding the release party for its second song, “Open My Eyes,” at World Cafe Live on January 25th.  As you may remember, the release party for the project’s first song was held at Gypsy Saloon a couple months back.  That was such a success they had to find a larger venue.  The release party will feature an all-star band which will include Uosikkinen, who is the Hooters’ drummer, other members of the Hooters, plus some of the Philadelphia area’s best musicians.  Part of the proceeds will benefit the Settlement Music School.  You can purchase tickets by clicking here.
