O’Neill Properties Apartment Community Approved for 51 Washington

During a special meeting of Borough Council Tuesday evening, Borough Council voted six to one to approve a settlement agreement with O’Neill Properties to allow the developer to move forward with an apartment community at 51 Washington Street. The only member of Borough Council to vote against accepting the settlement was Karen Tutino (D), who represents Ward 1. The development falls within that ward.

Wondering where 51 Washington Street is? If you were to drive over the Matsonford Bridge from Conshy to West Conshy, the apartment community would be located to the right of the bridge as you go over it.

The development was in litigation due to disagreement over whether the development met the required zoning. The Borough and O’Neill agreed to the settlement based on O’Neill’s commitment to meet certain obligations, which includes a $300,000+ payment to the Borough labeled an impact fee. The money can be utilized by Borough Council at its discretion. O’Neill is also required to create a viewing area overlooking the river.

The development is expect to have about 300 apartments.  A ground breaking is expected before the end of the year.
