Retiring State Representative Mary Jo Daley (D, PA-148) (pictured left) has made an endorsement in the Democratic Party primary to replace her in representing Whitemarsh Township., Narberth, and a portion of Lower Merion Township in Harrisburg.
On February 7th, Daley emailed her supporters and endorsed Whitemarsh Township Supervisor Megan Griffin-Shelley (pictured right), who just took office in January. In her endorsement, Daley stated, “My priorities have always been clear. I want a woman in this seat. Representation matters. I want that woman to bring other women with her.”
Daley offered that she had planned to stay neutral in the race, but that the current political climate drove her to endorse Griffin-Shelley, who she feels is the “right woman for the times we are facing.”
There are currently four candidates in the Democratic Party primary. In addition to Megan Griffin-Shelley, they are former Narberth Mayor Andrea Deutsch, environmental lawyer and civil rights advocate Jason Landau Goodman, and Leo Solga, a researcher at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School.
Daley is a resident of Narberth, where she was previously an elected official. As you can see she did not endorse fellow Narberth resident and former elected official Deutsch. The 148th district is also mainly composed of the Main Line (Whitemarsh comprises approximately 25% of voters in the 148th and you can’t reach it from the Main Line without traveling through West Conshohocken/Conshohocken, traveling through Philadelphia, or swimming across the Schuylkill River). Griffin-Shelley is the only non-Main Liner in the race.

The primary election is scheduled for May 19th.
